I-75 Rush Hour Gets Boost Friday

By Friday morning rush hour, two lanes of I-75 should be open on both sides of the freeway. But several ramps will still be closed.

METRO DETROIT, MI — Northbound I-75 commuters in Oakland County will be getting some relief late Thursday. Two newly paved lanes from Coolidge Highway to South Boulevard will reopen after months of construction, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

By Friday morning’s rush hour, MDOT expects to have two lanes open on both north and southbound I-75. The move is part of a $91.8 million “modernization” project that will continue over the next few years. MDOT says once complete, the project will enhance safety and improve traffic flow.

Despite the good news, drivers will continue to see slowdowns in the area. Ramp closures that will remain until mid-September include:

  • The Adams Road entrance ramp to northbound I-75
  • The northbound I-75 exit to westbound Square Lake Road
  • The eastbound Square Lake Road entrance to northbound I-75
  • The eastbound M-59 ramp to southbound I-75.
