Meritor's 'Jeans Day' Raises More than $5K for USA Cares

Meritor employees have donated more than $57,000 to local charities since the beginning of the year.

Last Friday, employees held a family picnic to – a charity devoted to supporting military veterans and their families. Employees to raise money for the charity.

USA Cares is just one of more than 20 charities supported by Meritor employees this year. The company-wide fundraisers began as a weekly "casual Friday," where employees could pay $5 to dress down on the last day of the work week. Since then, internal rivalries between departments and plain old generosity have turned the small event into a large-scale fundraising operation that has now raised more than $57,000 for local charities.

The grand total of $5,272 officially puts the Meritor Defense team ahead of all other Meritor departments, which take turns hosting the weekly fundraisers. The Defense team also raised more than $7,600 in May.
