Officer Shoots Fleeing Driver During Traffic Stop: Troy Police
The driver was maneuvering a stolen vehicle toward the officer when he was shot, according to police.
TROY, MI — A driver was shot by a Troy officer while attempting to flee police in a stolen vehicle, according to authorities.
Officers were alerted Tuesday afternoon about the stolen vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop on East Big Beaver Road west of Daley Street, police said. The vehicle was stuck in traffic, so officers attempted to box it in, but the driver tried to ram the vehicle out of the box in the direction of an officer in the road, according to authorities.
The officer fired his service weapon and struck the driver in the upper body, police said. The driver was taken into custody and brought to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to police.

A passenger was treated for minor injuries related to the driver’s attempts to escape, police said.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office was asked to investigate the incident, police said, adding East Big Beaver Road was closed at Daley Street as of about 5:45 p.m. and would remain so until the on-scene probe was complete.
