• Troy Man Charged After Beating Small Dog: Police (patch.com) — Police say a Troy resident has been charged with animal cruelty after officers responded to an apartment on Coachman Drive and found a small dog with multiple injuries. The dog is now in the care of Oakland County Animal Control, while the man is being held in the Troy Jail on bond as the case moves forward under Michigan’s animal cruelty laws.

• Possible dementia concerns with Oakland judge raised by oversight body (freep.com subscription) — A sitting judge at Troy’s 52-4 District Court is facing an updated state misconduct complaint that now raises concerns about possible cognitive decline while she continues handling civil, landlord-tenant, and small claims cases. State judicial overseers cite recent neuropsychological testing, while her attorney disputes that the findings amount to dementia, ahead of public hearings expected to begin in early February.
