Woman caught trying to cash fraudulent check

An 18-year-old Detroit woman was apprehended and charged Tuesday afternoon with uttering and publishing when employees called Troy Police after realizing the woman was attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

According to a Troy Police Department media release, the woman had presented a $1,978.12 check drawn on a Marygrove College account. When the check was determined to be fraudulent, the woman said an acquaintance had given her the check to cash and was waiting outside, but had left when police arrived.

Suspected drunken driver travels wrong way on freeway

A Troy Police officer patrolling northbound Interstate 75 just after midnight Wednesday morning noticed a vehicle going the wrong way on the southbound Interstate 75 exit ramp from 14 Mile Road. The driver of the vehicle then proceeded to drive north on the shoulder of southbound Interstate 75.

The man then made a U-turn to join southbound traffic. The Troy officer caught up with the 35-year-old Berkley man, who was arrested for operating while intoxicated - 2nd offense. His preliminary breath test results were 0.16 percent – twice the legal limit — according to police.

iPad missing from elementary school

Employees conducting inventory at on Monday discovered an Apple iPad is missing from the school.

Belongings stolen from moving truck

A man on the 1000 block of Coachman reported on June 11 that someone had cut the padlock on his rented U-Haul truck during the night and stolen many of his belongings, which he had packed into the truck the night before. Missing items include a laptop, flat screen television, clothing and jewelry.

Teens caught fighting, drinking at Taco Bell

Troy officers responded to reports of a fight at early Monday morning. Officers spoke with five males, who said they had been arguing and not fighting.

Troy officers conducted an investigation and issued a 20-year-old Fraser resident, an 18-year-old Troy resident and a 20-year-old Sterling Heights resident citations for possession of marijuana and minor consuming or possessing alcohol.

The two other males – a 20-year-old Ferndale man and a 19-year-old Sterling Heights man – were cited only for minor consuming or possessing alcohol.
