Rep. Lisa Brown to Troy Youth: Voting is 'Most Important Thing'

State House Rep. Lisa Brown recently garnered national attention for being barred from speaking on the floor after using the word "vagina" while arguing against legislation restricting abortion last week.

Just one week after referencing her religious beliefs and using the word "vagina" on the state House floor while discussing new abortion legislation – which resulted in her being – Rep. Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) offered a small bit of advice to Troy's youth and young adults.

"One thing is, when you're standing up and using your voice, you have to remember you're not just standing for yourself – you're standing up for other people as well," Brown said Wednesday evening during a Troy Democratic Club meeting. "Not everybody's like you."

Brown attended the meeting at the just hours after to the nearby hotel.

"Using your voice and voting is the most important thing," she said. "It's your right, and if you don't like what's going on, you need to show that, and the way you do that is through your vote."
