Road Commission: 14 Mile Resurfacing to Begin July 16; Campbell to Close

The following information was provided by the Road Commission for Oakland County.

Campbell Road will be closed at 14 Mile Road beginning July 16, when the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) begins the resurfacing of 14 Mile from Campbell to east of Stephenson Highway on the Troy/Madison Heights border.

Campbell will remain closed at 14 Mile until approximately Aug. 13. During the closure, the detour route for Campbell Road traffic will be 13 Mile Road to Rochester Road to 14 Mile Road and vice versa.

This section of 14 Mile Road will remain open to traffic during the resurfacing project, but will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Access to all homes and businesses along 14 Mile will be maintained at all times.

Additionally, Sheffield Drive will be closed on the north side of 14 Mile for the duration of the project.

The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 1.

The project will involve applying five inches of new concrete on top of the existing asphalt road. Where needed, the existing road will be completely removed and replaced with concrete.

The project also will include upgraded traffic signals, and the pedestrian crosswalks within the project will be upgraded to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

The project is expected to cost approximately $1.3 million. The project will be partially funded through an approximately $864,000 federal grant. The remainder of the cost will be shared between RCOC and the City of Troy.

The work will be performed by Florence Cement of Shelby Township.
