Shotgun Fired In Robbery Attempt: Police

A Detroit man attempted to rob a Troy restaurant late Sunday and fired a shotgun when an employee fought back, Troy Police said.

TROY, MI — A Detroit man who allegedly fired a shotgun during an attempted robbery of the Kona Grill restaurant in Troy late Sunday night is being held without bond. Kenneth Travier, 61, was arraigned Monday on charges of Armed Robbery and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony at 52-4 District Court.

Travier came into the E. Big Beaver Road restaurant at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday, according to Troy Police reports. Masked, he tried to push his way into the office, but an employee fought him off, sprayed him with pepper spray and was able to get the door closed, police said.

That’s when Travier allegedly fired a shotgun through the office door. No employees were injured and no patrons were present in the restaurant, Troy Police said.

Officers arrived moments later and stopped Travier, who was fleeing the scene on foot. Reports said the shotgun was found nearby.
