Thief Swipes Musical Instruments From Homeowner
A guitar and a pair of trumpets were reported stolen Monday to the Troy Police Department.

TROY, MI — A pair of trumpets and a guitar were recently stolen from a home in the 2000 block of E. Long Lake Road. The homeowner returned from a vacation Monday to find that his 1950’s Gibson Archtop Steelstring Folk Guitar, his 1964 Stradivarius B Flat Box Trumpet, and his Yamaha Bobby Shew B Flat Silver Trumpet had all been stolen. The homeowner told police that he believed his home had been broken into multiple times while he was on vacation.
The larceny marked a busy couple of days for the Troy Police Department. Between July 17-18, officer responded to 212 calls for service. Four arrests were made off of warrants and three more on narcotics charges. Here’s a rundown of incidents of note:
Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated- Northbound Rochester Road, South of Boyd Street, 7/17/2017, 12:44 AM: Officer initiated a traffic stop on a silver 2007 Chevrolet HHR that was being driven erratically and for a traffic violation. The officer spoke with the driver, a 65 year old male from Troy, and noted him to have glossy eyes and slurred speech. He was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations to which he did but the officer noted that he performed poorly. He submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .157%. He was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 1st Offense.

- 4000 block of Reilly Drive, 6/8/2017: Victim discovered his 90 day prescription order of Ocycotine and Valium was stolen. The victim contacted the United States Postal System and was informed that their records indicate the package was delivered and signed by a subject named “D Max”. The victim does not know anyone by that name and believes the substitute postal delivery person is responsible for the theft.
- Southbound Dequindre Road, South of E. Big Beaver Road, 7/17/2017, 12:55 AM: Officer initiated a traffic stop on a maroon 2010 Toyota Corolla for an equipment violation. The officer spoke with the driver and passenger inside the vehicle and each were both were able to provide State of Michigan Identification Cards. The officer noted an odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. When asked, the driver, a 25 year old male from Farmington Hills, denied having any narcotics in the vehicle but did admit smoking some earlier the day prior. The officer received consent to search the vehicle and found in the center console were two marijuana pipes, and a plastic bag and a foil packet, both containing suspected marijuana tucked under the dashboard near the steering wheel. The suspected marijuana was field tested with a narcotics test kit with the officer receiving a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana. It was also discovered that the driver was operating the vehicle outside the restrictions of his State of Michigan Operator’s License as mandated by the Michigan Secretary of State. He was arrested and charged with Violation of a Restricted Operator’s License, Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana.
- Westbound E. Maple Drive, West of Stephenson Highway, 7/17/2017, 3:11 AM: Officer initiated a traffic stop on a silver 2015 Toyota Avalon that was being driven erratically. The officer spoke with the driver, a 26 year old female from Dearborn, and noted she had bloodshot eyes and her speech was slurred. The driver admitted to having consumed two drinks of alcohol earlier. The driver was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations to which she did but the officer noted that she performed poorly. She submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .04%. She was arrested and transported to the Troy Police Lock-up Facility where she was read her Chemical Test Rights but refused to submit to a Blood Test. A search warrant for a Blood Test was drafted and signed by a local Magistrate. The search warrant was executed and the driver’s blood was drawn by medical personnel. She was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Narcotics pending laboratory results.
- Eastbound E. Maple Road at Leafgreen Drive, 7/17/2017, 1:25 PM: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a red 2007 Jeep for a traffic violation. The officers spoke with the driver, a 24 year old female from Ortonville, and discovered her State of Michigan Operator’s License was ‘Suspended’ by the Michigan Secretary of State due to not paying the Re-instatement Fee. She was arrested and while searching her vehicle, officers located a suspected marijuana cigarette in a cigarette box in the driver’s door, a glass narcotic pipe in the center console, and a prescription bottle in the center console as well labeled “Ibuprofen” and prescribed to another subject. Inside the pill bottle was 26 Clindamycin Hydrochloride Pills. Inside the suspect’s purse was a plastic bag that contained 9 Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine pills. The suspected marijuana was field tested with a narcotics test kit with the officer receiving a positive reaction for the presence of marijuana. She was charged with Driving While License Suspended, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession of Prescription Mediation.
- PNC Bank Parking Lot, 755 W. Big Beaver Road and Huntington Bank Parking Lot, 801 W. Big Beaver Road, 7/17/2017, 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM: Victims discovered unknown suspect(s) damaged the windows and entered their vehicles to steal the navigational systems. A black 2006 Chrysler 300 had the front passenger door window broken out while a gray 2016 Chrysler Town and Country and a white 2010 Chrysler Town and Country had the driver’s side middle windows broken out.
- 1000 block of Congress Court, 7/14/2017 – 7/15/2017, 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM: Victim discovered unknown suspect(s) stole his State of Texas license plate off his utility trailer that was parked in his father’s driveway. He is unable to provide any suspect(s).
- 1000 block of Madison Drive, 7/18/2017, 8:55 PM: Witnesses observed 4 to 5 juveniles run up to a porch and steal a package that had been delivered there. The suspects were seen opening the package and discarding the box that it came in. The suspect then took the item and got onto their bicycles, heading east on Harmony Drive heading toward Baker Middle School. The item stolen was a Logitech K360 Wireless Keyboard. The unknown suspects were described by witnesses as being approximately 12 to 15 years old, three of them being black males while one was a white or Hispanic male.
