This week’s update from Troy Police contained three OUI arrests, two narcotics arrests, and much more. See what area police have been up to.
Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated
Southbound Dequindre Road, South of E. Big Beaver Road. On Jan. 14 at 1:05 a.m., a Troy Police officer stopped a silver 2015 Dodge Charger because the car was moving erratically. The officer spoke with the driver, a 54 year old male from Sterling Heights, and smelled alcohol coming from the car. The driver initially denied drinking any alcohol, but later admitted to consuming three to five drinks at a party earlier in the evening. The driver performed poorly on several field sobriety tests and his Preliminary Breath Test came back as .109%. He was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol.

Eastbound W. Big Beaver Road, West of Crooks Road. Jan. 14, at 1:32 a.m., Troy Police officers stopped a white 2014 Chevrolet Cruze because it was being driven erratically. The officers smelled alcohol on the driver, a 50-year-old male Troy man. Though the driver denied drinking at first, he later told officers he’d had a few drinks earlier at a friend’s house. The driver performed poorly on several field sobriety tests. After being taken to Troy lockup and read his Chemical Test Rights, he refused a Breath Test. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood test, and medical personnel then drew his blood. He was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 1st Offense pending laboratory results.
Southbound Rochester Road, South of E. Wattles Road. On Jan. 16 at 2:33 a.m., a Troy Police Officer stopped maroon 2007 Jeep Commander for a traffic violation. The officer noticed that the 28-year-old Roseville man driving the car smelled like alcohol. The driver admitted to having two alcoholic drinks. The driver performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations, and had a Preliminary Breath Test result of .148%. He was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol – 2nd Offense.

Retail Fraud
TJ Maxx, 350 John R Road. On Jan. 14 at 5:26 p.m., a 30-year-old Detroit woman tried to steal $72.96 worth of merchandise and was stopped by store securty. She was arrested by the responding Troy Police officers who found a glass jar containing suspected marijuana (field tests were positive for marijuana). She was charged with Retail Fraud – 3rd Degree and Possession of Marijuana.
Macy’s Department Store, 2750 W. Big Beaver Road. Jan. 14 at 6:26 p.m. A 19-year-old Southfield woman tried to steal $108 worth of merchandise. Store security prevented the theft and called Troy Police. She was arrested by the responding officers and charged with Retail Fraud – 3rd Degree.
Sak’s Fifth Avenue, 1301 Coolidge Highway. On Jan. 15, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., store security discovered that an unknown suspect or suspects had stolen $3,400 worth of merchandise.
Sunglasses Hut, 2800 W. Big Beaver Road. On Jan. 15 at 9 p.m., an unknown woman stole $515 worth of merchandise. The responding officer was able to determine the suspect was a 28-year-old Madison Heights woman and contacted her. The suspect admitted the theft and agreed to return the stolen property, doing so the next day. After returning the property, she was issued a Misdemeanor Citation for Retail Fraud – 2nd Degree and released.
Home Depot, 1177 Coolidge Highway. Jan. 16 at 4:10 p.m., an unknown suspect was caught by store security trying to steal $1,197 worth of merchandise. The suspect left the merchandise and fled through the parking lot, running southbound on Coolidge Highway toward the Meijer’s Store. The suspect, a 30-year-old Detroit man was found inside Meijer and arrested. He was charged with Retail Fraud – 1st Degree.
Larceny in a Building
Target, 1301 Coolidge Highway. On Jan. 11 between 8 a.m. and noon, a woman shopping at Target noticed that five credit cards had been taken from her wallet. She was unable to identify possible suspects and cancelled the cards without any fraudulent activity occurring on them.
Nordstrom’s, 2850 W. Big Beaver Road. On Jan. 12 between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., an employee discovered that an unknown suspect had stolen her iPhone from a cubicle near the hostess’ desk. She sent a text message to the phone asking if it had been found. A suspect called from another number, indicating the suspect had bought the phone from another subject for $20 and requested $60 for its return. The victim asked to meet in Troy but the suspect asked to meet in Hamtramck instead which the victim declined.
Credit, Check, Identity Theft, Other Fraud
3000 block of Kingsley Street, 1/12/2018: Victim discovered unknown suspect(s) used his credit card account to complete two fraudulent on-line purchases. One purchase was made through a company in S. Chico, California for $431.25 worth of merchandise while the second purchase was through a company in Midvale, Connecticut for $599.99 worth of merchandise. Both purchases were delivered via the United Parcel Service to an address in Jackson. Victim did not give anyone permission to do such and does not know how his personal account information was compromised. 17-1665
Genisys Credit Union, 1960 E. Big Beaver Road. On Jan. 12 at 5:15 p.m. the bank contacted a client to tell him that a suspect had tried to cash a $1,000 personal check against the victim’s account. The suspect claimed to have done furnace work for the victim, but the victim’s signature on the check did not match what the credit union had on file. The suspect fled the credit union, leaving identification behind. The victim checked his checkbook and discovered that check and another had been stolen. The checkbook was located in the glove compartment of his vehicle and believes the theft occurred in Pontiac or Waterford. The victim wishes to seek criminal charges for Uttering and Publishing a Check against the suspect through the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
Walmart, 2001 W. Maple Road. On Jan. 16 at 9:52 a.m., the victim discovered that an unknown suspect(s) used her credit card on-line to make a fraudulent purchase and was able to pick-up the $421.88 item at the business. The victim did not give anyone permission to use her card, and does not know how her personal account information was compromised.
200 block of Kirts Boulevard. On Jan. 9, the victim was notified by his employer that unknown suspect(s) used his name to file for unemployment. The victim did not give anyone permission to make the filing and does not know how his personal information was compromised.
Somerset Chevrolet, 1850 W. Maple Road. On Jan. 16 at 6:11 p.m., a salesman told police that a customer completed a purchase with several $50 bills, one of which was counterfeit. The subject indicated the counterfeit currency was picked-up at a Kroger’s in Sterling Heights. The fake currency was confiscated by the responding officer and sent to the United States Secret Service for further investigation.
