Troy Police Chief Gary Mayer To Retire In 2019

Troy City Council recently approved a succession plan to replace current Chief Gary Mayer.

TROY, MI — Troy will have a new police chief in 2019. Current Chief Gary Mayer, who has held the position since 2009, will retire sometime in 2019. His replacement will be selected from a pool of three captains — Tom Gordon, Frank Nastasi and Bob Redmond.

Troy City Council recently approved the promotion of Gordon and Nastasi to captain from lieutenant and was in support of the department’s police chief succession plan. “I think it’s an excellent plan,” said Mayor Dane Slater. “It’s nice to see all departments looking forward.”
“The Troy Police Department is very important to me,” Mayer said. “I want to leave it in good hands.”
