Troy Recreation Offers Art Classes for All Ages

Sign yourself, your kids or teens up now for a wide array of art classes offered through the Troy Recreation Department at the Troy Community Center. 

Pee Wee Picasso is for children ages 3-5 with parent. Your little ones create their own masterpieces under the direction of our resident artist Jan Lindell-Meinhard.   This mini three-day session on Saturdays (Sept. 7-21, Sept. 28 – Oct. 12, Oct. 19- Nov. 2 or Nov. 9-23) from 9:15-10:15am is perfect for kids to explore new ways to grow their creative side. New projects every session.   Fee: Resident $24/NR $29.  Materials Fee:  $12 (paid directly to instructor at the 1st class).

Clay Play for children ages 3-5 with parent is a fun approach to help your child develop fine motor skills.  Kids design their own tiles/clay figures using a special theme on four Tuesdays (Sept. 10 – Oct. 1, Oct. 15 – Nov. 5, or Nov. 19 – Dec. 10) from 9:15 - 10:15am.  All pieces will be fired in the kiln, different project each session.  Instructor:  Jan Lindell-Meinhard. Fee: Resident $16/NR $21. Materials Fee:  $12 (paid directly to instructor at the 1st class).

Youth Pottery

An exciting 3-week or 4-week class on Wednesdays from 5:30-7pm for youngsters ages 6-13 that emphasizes creativity and fun.  Learn different techniques with resident artist Jan Lindell-Meinhard each week while building your clay skills.  First three weeks work on project and glaze on the final week.  Fee includes tools, clay, glazing supplies and firing.  Dress for mess.  Fee 4-week class: Resident $48/NR $58; 3-week class: Resident $36/NR $46. Materials Fee:  $20 (paid directly to instructor at the 1st class).

Amazing Art

A wonderful three-week art class on Saturdays (Sept. 7-21, Sept. 28-Oct. 12, Oct. 19-Nov. 2 or Nov. 19-23) from 10:30-11:30am that explores different mediums for ages 6-13.  Fun tactile project choices explore different mediums -  beads, mixed media, paint and more.  Tools and materials provided by instructor.  Each new session has new and exciting projects.  Make sure you dress for mess.  Class size is limited. Fee: Resident $24/NR $29. Materials Fee:  $12 (paid directly to instructor at the 1st class).

Teen & Adult Pottery

Join our resident artist Jan Lindell-Meinhard to create beautiful pottery.  The four-week Wednesday class (Sept. 11 - Oct. 2, Oct. 16 - Nov. 6, or Nov. 20 - Dec. 18) from 7-9 pm is designed for ages 14 and older.  Tools and materials provided by instructor.  Dress for mess.   Material fee is separate.  Pick-up projects after last class.

Free Form: Allow your creativity to flow while designing various clay projects.  Each session focuses on different themes.

Tiles and Mold: Create your own architectural tile from mold through glazing.  A hands-on class using “arts and craft” tile styles.

Fee: Resident $64/NR $74. Materials Fee:  $25 (paid directly to instructor at the 1st class).           

Clay Projects – for Seniors Ages 50+

Tap into your creative side during this four-week Tuesday class (Sept. 10-Oct. 1, Oct. 15-Nov. 15, or Nov. 19-Dec. 10) from 10:30am-12pm working with clay and glazes to design beautiful pottery.  Under the direction of our art instructor Jan Lindell-Meinhard you have the opportunity to explore the world of clay.  Fee: Resident $48/NR $58. Materials Fee:  $25 (paid directly to instructor at the 1st class).
