Troy Schools Among Best In U.S. For Music Education
Troy schools are among 527 nationwide that received the designation for their outstanding commitment to music education.

TROY, MI — NAMM Foundation has recognized Troy School District for its outstanding commitment to music education with a Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) designation. TSD joins 527 districts across the country in receiving the prestigious distinction in 2017.
Now in its 18th year, Best Communities for Music Education affirms school districts that have demonstrated exceptional efforts toward maintaining music education as part of schools’ core curriculum.
The BCME survey requires districts to answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Center for Public Partnerships and Research, an affiliate of the University of Kansas.

“The Troy School District has a rich history of excellence in music education,” said Superintendent Dr. Richard Machesky. “A strong Arts program means all students in the Troy School District have the chance to stretch themselves beyond the traditional academic curriculum. Through choir, band and orchestra, our students overcome challenges and hone the ability to express themselves. They learn to be good listeners and good observers, sharpen their critical thinking skills and spark their creativity as they gain appreciation for beauty and an enthusiasm for life.”
This designation brings attention to the importance of keeping music education part of schools’ core education and music’s vital role in student success in school.
