VIDEO: Group Surprises, Serenades Troy Mom Fighting Cancer
Lisa Nordhaus, 39, also survived a liver transplant after giving birth to premature twins last September.
On Thursday afternoon, a group of sneaky well wishers met at to surprise 39-year-old Troy mom-of-three Lisa Nordhaus, who received a liver transplant following the birth of her premature twin babies last September.
“She got a liver, got a transplant, and thought that it would solve everything,” said Tanya Nordhaus, Lisa’s sister in law. “Unfortunately, it didn’t.”
After the transplant, Lisa and her husband Brian were dealt another blow when they learned she had stage four cancer, which had metastasized to several areas of her body.

“She’s going through lots of treatments, currently radiation treatments,” Tanya said. “She’s off of her chemotherapy for a little while just to see how she can do without it.”
To lift her spirits as she goes through treatment, the group plotted for a month to surprise her outside her Troy home near .

“It got started with all emails to friends, telling them, you know, don’t tell anybody,” Brian said.
“Her husband told her that they’re going out to dinner tonight so that she would get up and get dressed and look presentable,” Tanya said with a chuckle.
Just after 6 p.m., more than 50 friends, fellow church chorus mates and family members marched down the street to surprise Lisa. And surprise her, they did.
Holding up letters spelling “We love you, Lisa,” the group chanted the mantra for nearly three minutes before Lisa, who had been asleep when the group arrived, stepped onto her front patio, where she was greeted by cheers and applause.
And though Lisa managed to keep a dry eye while her choir sang to her, when the hugs came, so did the tears.
“I’ve been kind of by myself for a while now upstairs, and it’s hard to get all your friends together at once, or even just a little bit,” Lisa said, holding back more tears. “To have somebody put this all together to tell me how much they love me, it’s amazing.”
“The fact that people came to see her is going to make her day, help her feel stronger and help her get better,” Brian said.
“This is beautiful, a lot of outpouring of love,” Lisa said. “That’s what I feel.”
