Two Muses 'Next to Normal' Event Benefits Common Ground
Opening night festivities in West Bloomfield include a reception before the 8 p.m. performance and meet-and-greet afterglow event.
Friday's opening performance of Two Muses Theatre's first musical production, Next to Normal, will benefit Common Ground, an organization that helps youth, adults and families in crisis.
A Common Ground representative will speak at the West Bloomfield theatre group's "Red Carpet Opening Night Event", held at the theatre's space inside the West Bloomfield Barnes & Noble, 6800 Orchard Lake Road.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, with music by Tom Kitt, book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, centers on what appears to be a typical American family. But their lives are anything but normal, because the mother has been battling manic depression for 16 years. Though the show has moments of deep emotion, there are flashes of humor and an uplifting and hopeful ending. It is recommended for mature audiences.
The opening night event begins at 7 p.m., with live music and appetizers, with a meet and greet afterglow following the 8 p.m. performance.
Two Muses Theatre will donate $1 from each ticket purchase to Common Ground. Advance tickets are available for $23 for adults and $18 for students and senior citizens, and can be purchased at twomusestheatre.org or by calling 248-850-9919. Tickets are also available at the door for an additional $2.
