Beloved Metro Detroit Seafood Market Closing After 94 Years
Business leaders said it has become too expensive to stay open, specifically citing the rising costs in the king crab market.
WYANDOTTE, MI — A believed metro Detroit seafood retail store is closing down after serving downriver communities for nearly a century.
Weyands Fisheries, located at 471 Biddle Ave in Wyandotte, is permanently closing its doors on March 30, as business leaders say the costs have just become too high to stay open. They specifically cited the rising costs in the king crab market.
"After decades of providing quality seafood to the downriver community, we are sad to announce that Weyand Seafoods Retail Store will close permanently as of March 30. This decision is based on the high costs of doing business in today’s environment. The outlook for key markets such as King Crab, are rising and show no sign of easing anytime soon," business leaders wrote in a social media post.
