New Salads, Sandwiches Big Hits at Tongue's in Wyandotte

Greg and Tim Tongue now offer made-to-order sandwiches and fresh-chopped salads made with produce from the Wyandotte Farmers Market.

Mike and Cathie Dallos of Wyandotte traded their coffee mugs in for lunch plates at Tongue's Coffee Tuesday to sample the coffee shop's newest menu items.

Owners Greg and Tim Tongue began serving made-to-order sandwiches and salads last month and the customers have been eating them up.

"I was pleasantly surprised with how it's turing out," Greg Tongue said. "There's been a fantastic response from customers."

Mike Dallos ordered the turkey sandwich and his wife, Cathie, ordered the roast beef. The long-time Tongue's customers said the sandwiches were as good as the last time they ordered them.

"It's excellent," Mike Dallos said. "We've been coming since the first week he (Tim Tongue) opened."

Tongue's offers seven different types of deli-style sandwiches available hot or cold, a three-cheese grilled cheese sandwich and two types of salads. There's also cheese quesadillas, bagels, ice cream and cheese cake available.

Greg Tongue said his son Tim was the lightbulb behind the bright idea to serve food.

"I was sick of people coming in and eating Jimmy John's (also located on Biddle not far from Tongue's)," Tim Tongue said.

Tim Tongue said the most popular sandwich has been The Fat Italian, which is made with, as are all the new menu items, fresh produce purchased at the Wyandotte Farmers Market.
