• Gruber appointed to Guidance Center board of directors (thenewsherald.com) — Wyandotte’s community and economic development director Joe Gruber has been appointed to the board of the Downriver-based Guidance Center, which serves more than 18,000 people annually. Gruber, who also leads Wyandotte’s Downtown Development Authority and serves on local Rotary and school scholarship boards, brings extensive experience in development, real estate, and nonprofit leadership to the regional human services agency.

• Southgate firefighter released from hospital as Motel 6 fire investigation continues (thenewsherald.com) — Wyandotte firefighters helped Southgate crews battle a serious Motel 6 blaze where a Southgate firefighter was injured but is now recovering at home. The early-morning fire damaged part of one building, displaced 15 families now aided by the Red Cross, and sent guests into the cold before they found temporary shelter nearby.
   

• Lorraine Yuskowatz (wlen.com) — Longtime Wyandotte resident and devoted teacher Lorraine Yuskowatz has passed away, with visitation and a memorial Mass set for Saturday, January 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Elm Street. Her life centered on family, education, and community, from raising her daughters in their Wyandotte home to doting on her grandchildren and staying active with crafts, reading, and travel.
