DeSana Center for Arts and Culture, even though the city already received $500,000 and work is underway. The twist: state Rep. Jim DeSana unknowingly voted for the cuts that hit the building named after his father, while local and regional lawmakers now debate whether and how to restore the funding.

• Southgate firefighter released from hospital as Motel 6 fire investigation continues (thenewsherald.com) — Wyandotte firefighters helped Southgate crews battle a serious Motel 6 blaze where a Southgate firefighter was injured but is now recovering at home. The early-morning fire displaced 15 families, drew a Red Cross response, and damaged part of the North Line Road motel while sparing guests from injury.
