A popular downriver tiki bar and music venue abruptly closed Tuesday, according to business officials.
WYANDOTTE, MI — A popular downriver tiki bar and music venue abruptly closed Tuesday, according to business officials.
Smugglers Run, located on the Detroit River in Wyandotte, permanently closed down Tuesday due to economic reasons.
"Due to the current economic environment that we all face, Smugglers Run has made the very difficult decision to close and cease operations effective immediately," business officials said in a statement. "Over the last six plus years we have met and provided entertainment for so many great people. We would like to thank everyone for their support which includes all of our bands as they all became part of our Smuggs Family. Words cannot properly express the gratitude we have for all of you. We love you all so much!! Thank You!!"

The bar had a list of concerns that were scheduled to perform through mid-October at the time of the closing. Aside from live music, the bar featured an indoor restaurant that served classics bar food, such as wings and burgers.
There was also an outdoor dining area that featured a tiki bar, which was well-known for their island-themed craft cocktails.

The bar was located just off Biddle Avenue in Wyandotte's north end and offered spectacular views of the Detroit River.
