What's Earning 2nd Place and Winning $50K on 'Jeopardy!' Alex?

Cathy Farrell, of Wyandotte, thrilled with her finish last week in the game show's Teachers Tournament.

A Wyandotte resident and educator came in second place and netted herself $50,000 in the Jeopardy! Teachers Tournament, which aired last week, according to The News-Herald.

Cathy Farrell, who is a teacher at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, told the newspaper she was happy and relieved to find herself in the tournament’s final round. In fact, coming in second and winning money weren’t nearly as satisfying as participating on the syndicated TV game show, the report stated.

Jennifer Giles of Columbine, Colo., won the tournament, earning $100,000 for her victory, the report added. The final match between Farrell, Giles and third-place finisher Adam Elkana-Hale, of St. Louis, aired Friday.

It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Farrell did so well in the Teachers Tournament. She’s the coach for Huron’s Quiz Bowl team, which won the state title last year, according to the report.
