What is the definition of an indoor and an outdoor cat?

An indoor cat: Never steps outside the house except for a car trip to vet.

An outdoor cat: A cat that leaves the house, even if only occasionally.
Examples

1. Goes outside regularly
2. Goes outside on or off a leash, supervised in the yard or on a patio or deck
3. Occasionally will “escape” or run outside due to an open door from kids or a dog being let outside
4. Goes to a groomer or a boarding facility

It is important to determine if your car is an indoor or an outer cat because outdoor cats need extra preventative care. They should not only be vaccinated for rabies and distemper like indoor cats, but they should also be vaccinated for feline leukemia, be given a monthly heartworm preventative and be dewormed regularly for tapeworm which they can pick up when hunting.
