2nd Hy-Vee Grocery Store Not Coming To Maple Grove: Reports

The chain is abandoning its plans to open five new stores in the Twin Cities metro, including a second in Maple Grove, according to reports.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove will not be getting a second Hy-Vee store after all, as the grocery chain recently announced plans to focus on larger stores and expanding its geographic footprint, according to reports.

Corporate officials said Monday that the chain will sell land it owns in Maple Grove, Chaska, Blaine, West. St Paul and Farmington, parcels it bought in recent years as it planned to open smaller stores throughout the region, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reports.

The grocery chain now plans to focus on larger stores of 150,000 square feet or more, and the parcels being sold are “not properly situated,” officials told the publication.

Hy-Vee opened its first Maple Grove store in 2019 at 18755 70th Way N. and previously planned to put another store near Highway 610 and Maple Grove Parkway, CCX Media reported.
