MAPLE GROVE, MN — The Maple Grove High School football team booked its ticket to the state semifinals with a win over Woodbury on Thursday.

The Maple Grove Crimson topped the Woodbury Royals 31-12 after leading 14-0 at halftime.

The Crimson relied heavily on the strength of its run game, racking up 317 rushing yards during the Class 6A state quarterfinal game at Eden Prairie High School.

Senior running back Derrick Jameson scored twice and finished the game with 219 rushing yards on 18 carries, while junior fullback Tanner Albeck picked up 56 yards on 13 carries, according to statistics from MN Football Hub.

Junior quarterback Jacob Kilzer was more active running the ball than throwing it Thursday but was effective at both.

He earned 37 yards from 12 carries, including a touchdown run, while completing four of seven passes for 122 yards. Most of those yards came on an 82-yard touchdown throw to junior tight end Sam Peters.

The Crimson defense gave up 240 passing yards but limited the Royals’ rushing attack to 57 yards. Seniors Jace Uzzell and Cade Cook led the Crimson defense with nine and eight tackles, respectively.
