Gas Prices Fall In Maple Grove, But Remain High

Prices have been falling across the country despite the increased demand for oil, according to AAA.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — Gas prices appear to be on the decline in the Twin Cities metro area and across the country. However, they remain very high compared to the price of gas this time last year.

As of Wednesday, the average price per gallon in the metro is $4.61, according to AAA. That's down from $4.76 a month ago, but up from $2.99 a year ago.

The current average for a gallon of gas in Hennepin County is $4.56, matching the metro-wide prices.

"Usually, more people buying gas would lead to higher pump prices," said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, in a news release. "But the price for oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, has fallen and is hovering around $100 a barrel. Less expensive oil usually means less expensive gas."
