According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Three Rivers Park District responded to Maple Grove Hospital after a woman reported being assaulted. She had visible injuries, including a swollen and bloodied nose and a hematoma on her forehead.

The woman told police she heard footsteps behind her while on a jog and was suddenly tackled from behind. Janusz fell on top of her, told her not to scream, and threatened to kill her, police said.

"I want pussy," he told her, according to the criminal complaint, adding: "Be quiet or I will kill you."

She fought back and attempted to reach her cellphone. She eventually told him she was going to vomit. Janusz reportedly told her he wouldn't care. After she wretched but didn’t vomit, he said it was her "lucky day" and ran eastbound down the trail, police said.

Though the woman could not positively identify her attacker, she provided a description. Maple Grove officers said they recognized similarities to a previous case involving Janusz on the same trail.

In that 2024 incident, he was charged with fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct after allegedly grabbing another female jogger by the neck.

During the investigation into the January assault, a co-worker told police that Janusz had bragged about lying to investigators, claiming he was running on the trail despite previously telling officers he had injured his knee, according to the criminal complaint.

The co-worker also provided a photo of Janusz wearing clothing that matched the description given by the victim, police said.

DNA from a swab taken from the victim’s face matched Janusz, and his phone and cell tower data placed him in the area at the time of the assault, according to authorities.

Due to the nature of the alleged crimes and Janusz’s past behavior, prosecutors requested that he be held on high bail, citing public safety concerns.
