Maple Grove Makeover: Eagle Lake Community Building Edition

After 36 years, the Eagle Lake Community Building is getting a new look inside due to a partnership between Maple Grove Home Depot and the Maple Grove Parks and Recreation.

The idea for the remodeling project in the building at Thoresen Park started with an outreach to Mayor Mark Steffenson by Home Depot, Maple Grove Home Depot Team Leader Zach Anderson said, inquiring about projects the store’s “Team Depot” could help with in Maple Grove. The business was connected with Deb Coss in the Maple Grove Parks and Recreation Department.

“The project just took off from there,” Anderson said.

 According to Hennepin County property records, the building was constructed in 1977. Anderson estimated much of the interior to be the original since the building was constructed.

“This building is heavily used by residents for small gatherings and has not been updated for many years,” Coss wrote in an email.

The building update includes new flooring, paint and an updated kitchen with new countertops and appliances. Anderson said Home Depot funded the $4,000 project. A team from the Maple Grove store donated the labor.

From planning to implementation, the project has taken about two months. Most of the work was completed at the end of January, with the flooring last piece yet to be completed.

The Eagle Lake Community at Thoresen Park is located at 6259 Eagle Lake Dr. in Maple Grove.
