Maple Grove Football Starts Postseason Ranked No. 2 in Metro

Maple Grove and Osseo start the section 5AAAAAA tournament Friday.

Maple Grove’s undefeated season has secured the Crimson a No. 1 seed in the section tournament and a No. 2 metro ranking, according to rankings released over the weekend.

The Crimson finished with an 8-0 record that largely left them untested. Bizarrely, 2-6 Hopkins came closest with a 23-14 loss in the second game of the season.

That record lifted them to second in the metro rankings, behind only Eden Prairie.

Local football fans also have good reason to cheer on Osseo. The Orioles finished with a 7-1 record that put them at fifth in the metro rankings. The Star Tribune said they “turned out to be vastly better than anticipated” and that they “proved to be the biggest surprise of the season.”
