Maple Grove Police Donate Old Gear To Support 'Defenders Of Ukraine'

The Maple Grove City Council unanimously approved a measure in March to let the department donate surplus and expired vests and helmets.

MAPLE GROVE, MN — The Maple Grove Police Department recently fulfilled its pledge to send some of its gear to support Ukrainians defending against Russia's ongoing invasion.

A Maple Grove community services officer delivered "critical and much needed equipment," including ballistic vests, helmets and knee pads, to the Ukrainian American Community Center in Minneapolis, Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner tweeted Sunday.

The Maple Grove City Council unanimously approved a measure in March to allow the department to donate surplus and expired vests and helmets to the "defenders of Ukraine."

The Maple Grove Police Department pledged to donate 58 patrol vests, 31 riot helmets, 12 SWAT helmets and seven SWAT vests, Werner said in a memo to the City Council.

The Ukrainian American Community Center is also raising money through its website and Facebook page for emergency humanitarian aid. The organization said it has raised more than $230,000 in donations for Ukraine since the Russian invasion started in late February.
