Melissa Hortman's Home Broken Into Overnight: Brooklyn Park Police
Plywood covering a back window had been pried off and the window had been broken so the intruder could gain entry, police said.

BROOKLYN PARK, MN — The Brooklyn Park home of state Rep. Melissa Hortman was broken into just days after she and her husband were killed at the residence in the early morning hours by a gunman impersonating a police officer, authorities said.
Law enforcement was alerted at 8 a.m. Wednesday to an overnight break-in at the home, according to a Brooklyn Park Police Department news release.
Plywood covering a back window had been pried off and the window had been broken so the intruder could gain entry, police said, adding the family does not believe anything was taken.

The home had already been processed by crime scene investigators and evidence related to the killings had been collected, according to police, who said the house was boarded up early Sunday morning after the attack Saturday. A police trailer camera was placed at the front of the home, authorities said, and the house was released to the family, who removed items of value Tuesday.
Vance Boelter is accused of fatally shooting Melissa and Mark Hortman. Before that, authorities say, he shot and wounded state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, a few miles away in Champlin. Boelter surrendered Sunday night after what authorities have called the largest search in Minnesota history.

Police are asking neighbors to check their cameras for footage from the last day and call 763-493-8222 about evidence or information related to the break-in, according to authorities.
