Criminal charges may be filed in the case. The Brooklyn Park Police Department will soon send its investigative file to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, the Star Tribune reported.

Details from the attack were included in a search warrant.

On July 19 at 12:45 p.m., the Brooklyn Park Police were dispatched to the 7500 block of Brooklyn Park Drive North for a dog attack.

Two pit bulls were attacking Covil in the backyard.

Officers found Covil, who appeared to be in critical condition and not responsive, court documents state.

"In the backyard and during the showing of dogs, one of the Pitbulls started to attack [Covil]," police said.

"Soon after the first dog attacked, a second Pitbull started attacking [Covil]. There were adults in the area that started to defend [Covil] by using hammers and pick axes to get the dogs off [Covil]. First responders arrived and started first aid to the victim."

Covil's mother was seriously wounded in the attack also.

Days after the attack, another child was attacked by a dog in Brooklyn Park.
