MAPLE GROVE, MN — Maple Grove will continue to be in Minnesota’s Third Congressional District for the next decade, according to new maps released Tuesday.

All of Maple Grove has been in the Third District since the previous redistricting process in 2012, and no changes were made in Maple Grove in the new maps produced by the Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel.

The redistricting panel moved Chanhassen, Chaska and Victoria out of the Third District, but added Hopkins, Anoka, Coon Rapids and a portion of Edina to balance population between the state’s eight congressional districts.

By making those changes, the Third District “achieves the ideal population while respecting political subdivisions and retaining its character as a suburban, Hennepin County-centered district,” the panel wrote.

Members of the Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel were appointed by the state Supreme Court after the Minnesota Legislature could not agree on new maps following the 2020 Census.

Minnesota barely retained its eight seats in Congress after the Census. The state would have lost a seat if 89 fewer Minnesotans — or 89 more New Yorkers — completed the U.S. Census.

Minnesota’s population increased 7.6 percent between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, with just over 5.7 million people living in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, as of 2020.
