The surge in new cases and hospitalizations that swept the state in November and early December seems to have subsided in recent days. The state’s positivity rate has fallen below 10% after hovering between 10% and 15% for weeks.

Minnesota is experiencing the nation’s 18th-fastest rate of case growth, with roughly 77 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past week, according the Brown School of Public Health.

Nearly 1,300 Minnesotans were hospitalized with COVID-19 Sunday, an improvement over hospitalizations in recent weeks. Metro hospital ICUs were at roughly 92% capacity with 55 beds available, and 95% capacity for non-ICU beds, with 173 available.
