The future of Kansas City is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Genesis Ventura Amaro, who are making a positive impact in and around Kansas City.

Genesis, a recent University of Missouri-Kansas City alumna, received the 2024 Milken Teacher Leader of Tomorrow Award. The award, presented during her student teaching year, highlights her dedication to making a difference for students in historically underserved schools. As an Institute for Urban Education (IUE) scholar, she is committed to bringing culturally responsive teaching and restorative practices to her future classrooms.

During her student teaching internship at the Academy for Integrated Arts charter school, Genesis demonstrated outstanding skills, earning praise from her professor and mentor, Jennifer Fergerson, who nominated her for the Milken Award. She described Genesis as a teacher who “embodies what an educator is” and who developed skills at an impressive rate. Genesis, who plans to teach in urban schools in Kansas City for at least four years after graduation, is inspired by the opportunity to change the lives of students as she embarks on her career.
