After a string of fires, developers are tightening security with drones, cameras, and new fencing as neighbors and city fire officials juggle safety concerns and the promise of more affordable housing.
   

2. Woman trampled in Chiefs rally shooting sues Kansas City, Union Station (kctv5.com) — A Kansas City woman injured while fleeing the Chiefs Super Bowl rally shooting is suing the City and Union Station, alleging they failed to provide adequate security. Her lawsuit details serious, ongoing injuries and seeks more than $25,000 in damages, while multiple criminal cases tied to the shooting continue moving through the courts.
   

3. Independence has been without water for 12 hours. When will it turn back on? (kansascity.com) — Independence residents are being told to expect no or low water pressure overnight and to keep boiling tap water, even as the city leans on Kansas City’s water system to help restore service. A failed transformer during maintenance at the Courtney Bend Water Plant triggered the outage, disrupted schools, and prompted boil advisories in Independence and Oak Grove while crews work through the night.
   

4. End of an era: Chiefs miss playoffs, fans and businesses regroup (kctv5.com) — Kansas City businesses and fans are bracing for a quieter winter after the Chiefs’ surprise playoff miss ends a decade of postseason home games and their big economic boost. Local shops and bars are shifting focus to broader Kansas City pride and looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup, which is expected to bring massive visitor spending to the city.

Kansas City leaders hold menorah lighting ceremony at city hall (fox4kc.com) — Kansas City leaders and members of the local Jewish community gathered at City Hall for a menorah lighting, underscoring solidarity after a deadly attack on Jews in Australia.
