Missouri Connections Academy Recognizes Kansas City Students
"Spotlight Student" recognizes achievements in and out of the virtual classroom
SPRINGFIELD, MO – Kelsier Redinger and Zoey Howard of Kansas City were recently named two of Missouri Connections Academy’s (MOCA) “Spotlight Students” for the month of September in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the virtual classroom.
Kelsier, a first grader at the statewide, public online school, was nominated by his teacher, Ms. Davis, because of his hard work and outstanding participation in class. Zoey, a third grader, was nominated by her teacher, Ms. Burkemper, for her outstanding work on her assessments.
“We appreciate the leadership our students demonstrate and their extraordinary commitment to learning and serving as strong role models for their peers,” said Lynsie Hunt, School Leader at Missouri Connections Academy. “The members of our faculty and staff are proud to give these virtual classroom leaders the recognition they deserve.”

As a “Spotlight Student,” Kelsier and Zoey will each receive a certificate of achievement and be profiled in the Missouri Connections Academy student newsletter. Each month during the school year, MOCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.
According to Kelsier’s mother, Tara, they enrolled him in Missouri Connections Academy to be in a safe learning environment focused on each individual student’s needs. Tara added that Kelsier is very creative and is a hard worker, so he appreciates all the different resources that are available to help him learn.

“Missouri Connections Academy is a fun and safe place to learn,” Tara said. “We can work at our own pace and talk in more detail about each subject if we need to.”
Zoey’s mother, Carrie, said they also enrolled her in the online school to be in a safe learning environment that met her academic needs. Carrie said that Zoey takes her homework seriously, so making the transition to a virtual classroom was easy with the support of the teachers and staff.
“We love everything about Missouri Connections Academy,” she said. “From the curriculum to the teachers and staff, this is the best education option period.”
Virtual school is a great fit for a variety of students and each student is unique.
