Missouri Connections Academy Recognizes Local Students

Student of the Month Award recognizes achievements in and out of the virtual classroom

Charlotte Brown, of South Kansas City and Ariana Howard, of Kansas City, were recently named two of Missouri Connections Academy’s (MOCA) Students of the Month for October in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the virtual classroom.

“Our students of the month demonstrate leadership and an extraordinary commitment to learning while serving as strong role models for their peers,” said Lynsie Hunt, School Leader at Missouri Connections Academy. “The members of our faculty and staff are proud to give these virtual classroom leaders the recognition they deserve.”

Charlotte is a Kindergartner and Ariana is a freshman at the statewide, tuition-free, online public school. As students of the month, each student will receive a certificate of achievement and be profiled in the Missouri Connections Academy student newsletter and the school’s social media platforms. Each month during the school year, MOCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.

According to Charlotte’s mother Brittany, they wanted her daughter in an online learning environment where she could work at her own pace. She added that she appreciates how at Missouri Connections Academy, parents are considered “learning coaches” and play an important role in their child’s academic experience.

“I would describe MOCA as an inclusive school and it’s nice to be alongside my daughter as she’s learning new things,” she said. “It’s amazing to be able to be a part of her daily school life.”
