Here are the top three stories today in Bozeman:
- In honor of National Bike to School Day today (May 3), the Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department partnered with two elementary schools to launch a walk-to-school program. The Walking School Bus program will provide students in the Hyalite Elementary and Meadowlark Elementary areas with safe routes to walk or bike to school. The program is part of the city and school district's Safe Routes to School initiative, which aims to promote active transportation and mobility alternatives throughout the community. (Montana Right Now)
- The North 19 Street Rest Area in Bozeman is now permanently closed due to the facility's ongoing maintenance issues and deterioration. The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) has announced that a new rest area is being built near Three Forks, and officials are planning for it to be open by this winter. Motorists are reminded to check MDT's road/weather information website and mobile apps for updates on construction projects, incidents, and events that could affect travel. (NBC Montana)
- Nearby Belgrade residents may soon have access to new walking trails, an indoor pool, and a regional park if a proposed project is approved. The project would be located on an 80-acre lot off Dry Creek Road and Penwell Bridge. However, some Belgrade residents have expressed concerns about the $49 million bond vote needed to fund the project. (KBZK News)
