UNLV Shooting Suspect Dead, Numerous Victims Hospitalized: Police

LAS VEGAS, NV — The suspected gunman who opened fire Wednesday at the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is dead, police said, and numerous victims have been hospitalized.
Police responded to a confirmed active shooter incident at the university, and police said they believe there were "multiple victims."
Around 12:30 p.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the suspect was contained. About five minutes later, police said the gunman was "located and is deceased."

UNLV asked students and faculty to continue sheltering in place while authorities investigate.
Police asked people to continue to avoid the area and watch for responding emergency units.

The university previously said that campus police were responding to a "confirmed active shooter in BEH."
"This is not a test. RUN-HIDE-FIGHT," a campus alert said.
Las Vegas police said they were also responding to preliminary reports of an active shooter on campus near BEAM Hall.
"There appears to be multiple victims at this time. Please avoid the area and we will have more information soon," the police department said.
Students and faculty were told to shelter in place.
Officials also reported additional shots fired in the Student Union. That building was told to evacuate.
Videos posted on Twitter showed law enforcement rushing the campus as sirens blared.
Rep. Dina Titus, who represents the 1st Congressional District of Nevada, tweeted that her office is aware of the shooting report.
"My staff and I are closely monitoring reports of an active shooter at UNLV and are in communication with @LVMPD as the situation unfolds about how we can be of assistance," she said. "Please avoid the area and immediately evacuate to a safe area."
One person tweeted that he was locked down inside a campus building.
"Everyone nearby was told to lock down inside here. Police update just pushed out a “confirmed active shooter” alert," tweeted @brettforrest89.
News3 reported that more than two dozen units were headed to UNLV.
A ground stop was issued at Harry Reid International Airport, according to the FAA.
