Election 2018: Allison Stephens Announces Candidacy In NV04

Nevada System of Higher Education Regent Allison Stephens announced Tuesday she is running for Congress in the 4th Congressional District.

Allison Stephens, a member of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents, announced on Tuesday she is running for Congress in Nevada's 4th Congressional District.

“I grew up in and am raising my children in this district. I have seen firsthand how important it is to have effective individuals representing us in Congress," Stephens said in a statement. “My experience as a community advocate, single mother, and elected official has given me the opportunity to work with families, students, business owners, and community leaders from all corners of Nevada’s fourth congressional district."

Stephens was elected to the Board of Regents in 2012. In 2017, she served a vice chair of the board from January to June. She was elected to serve on the Nevada State Democratic Central Committee in 2016 and is Nevada's DNC National Committee Woman.

Stephens said in a press release that she will begin her campaign this week, visiting the 4th District towns of Tonopah, Pahrump, and Mesquite before officially filing on Friday in Las Vegas.

The campaign for Nevada's 4th Congressional District will be one of the more intriguing races across the state in 2018. Former Congressional representatives Steven Horsford and Cresent Hardy are running to regain their former seat, and a report from The Nevada Independent last week suggested that current CD4 Rep. Ruben Kihuen is reconsidering his previous decision to retire in the face of sexual misconduct allegations.
