Annexation Won't Happen: 77 Percent Oppose City's Proposal
Residents of proposed areas of unincorporated Clark County overwhelmingly opposed annexing land into Las Vegas city limits.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas will end efforts to annex portions of unincorporated Clark County into city limits, the city announced Tuesday. After reviewing responses to the city's proposal - which would have caused county residents to pay the same in taxes as city residents - opposition from residents exceeded the necessary threshold outlined by Nevada state law to nix the plan.
"Based on the final results submitted by those property owners within the islands, the annexation process for these parcels will stop, and the city will not pursue annexing these islands at this time," a city press release said.
According to the city, 77 percent of parcel owners opposed annexation and there was a "78 percent protest by assessed value." The city cannot annex property if more than half of the residents in the area oppose, according to NRS 268.660.
