CES: Eve Of Convention Sets Record For Ride Pickups
Nearly 30,000 people were picked up from McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas on Monday, officials said.

LAS VEGAS, NV - If you're looking for a tangible economic benefit of Las Vegas' convention industry, just ask the transportation industry about Monday in Las Vegas. According to McCarran International Airport, 29,878 people called a taxi or used a ride share service to get picked up from the airport on Jan. 8, the single highest day total on record. Airport officials attributed the record setting day to the influx of visitors for the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show, which began on Tuesday.
Airport officials said that 18,413 people grabbed a taxi and 11,465 people used either Uber or Lyft to be picked up from the airport on the eve of the annual convention put on by the Consumer Technology Association. The more than 11,000 ride share pickups surpassed the previous record of 10,262 set on Nov. 26.
The tech convention, held annually in Las Vegas, draws companies from around the world to showcase new products in consumer electronics. Last year the show drew more than 184,000 people to the city.
