Ex-UFC Fighter Chael Sonnen Charged In Las Vegas Fight: Report

LAS VEGAS, NV — Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen faces 11 charges — including a felony battery count — stemming from a fight at a Las Vegas hotel in December, according to a report.

Authorities accused Sonnen of attacking six people, including a woman, during a Dec. 18 melee, TMZ Sports reported. Court documents allege Sonnen choked a man, punched a woman and punched or kneed others in the head and face during the fracas, according to the report.

Prosecutors filed the charges last week, according to the report.

A video obtained by TMZ appeared to show law enforcement officers escorting Sonnen through a hallway in handcuffs.

Sonnen, 44, last fought in the UFC in November 2013 in a light-heavyweight bout against Rashad Evans. He was knocked out in the first round.

Sonnen's career includes bouts in the UFC and Bellator against MMA stars such as Forrest Griffin, Paulo Filho, Demian Maia, Nate Marquardt, Anderson Silva, Michael Bisping, Jon Jones, Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva, Quinton Jackson and, most recently, a 2019 loss to Lyoto Machida.

That includes title fights in 2010, 2012 and 2013, all losses for Sonnen.

The West Linn, Oregon, native has also worked as an MMA analyst for ESPN and briefly ran as a Republican for the 37th district of the Oregon House of Representatives in 2010.
