Upcoming Community Events In Las Vegas

Here's a look at some community events you can start planning on for the start of 2018.

LAS VEGAS, NV - As the new year arrives and the holiday break approaches, it's time to start planning out the next few weeks. If you're a parent looking for a place to drop your children off during time off from school, there's plenty of day camps they can attend.

If you're looking to get more active for the new year, there are plenty of ways to stay active. The City of Las Vegas recreation website has a list of activities and deadlines, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.

Here's a list of upcoming activities for 2018. Important dates are in bold.

City of Las Vegas 33rd Annual Corporate Challenge

The corporate challenge is the "Olympics" for companies and their employees in Las Vegas. This year's competition will begin on March 2nd and last through May 12th. The competition features a number of activities such as basketball, golf, bocce, poker, tennis, softball, volleyball, chess, and more.

Adult Winter Softball

Registratrion for winter softball leagues in Las Vegas is open from January 2nd through January 9th. The following leagues are available: Coed rec, Coed D, Coed D+, Men's D, and 18+. Games begin on January 16th and are available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. Registration is $475 per team plus $168 for umpire fees. The season lasts seven weeks, teams play one double-header per week.

Dr. Martin Luther King Community Youth Basketball Tournament

This youth basketball tournament runs from January 10th through January 12th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. each night. The tournament is free to qualifying participants. Contact Willie Dunn at 702-229-1734 or Savonta Manor at 702-229-6359 for details.

Doolittle Winter Youth Basketball Leagues

The season starts on January 16 for grades 2-8. Games are held on Monday-Thursday and on Saturdays. The cost is $250 per team. No individual registration is allowed. Referee fees range from $20 to $25 per game. This is a competitive league and registration will remain open until it is full. Call 702-229-6374 for more details.

Drama/Music Group

This group is for people ages 16 and older with developmental disabilities. The cost is $30 per month and meets Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Mirabelli Winter Break Camp (ages 6-11)

If you're looking for a place your child (ages 6-11) can spend time during winter break Mirabelli Winter Break Camp is an option. The camp runs from Tuesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 5th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The cost is $125 per child. Activities will include sports, arts and crafts, games, and physical fitness.

East Las Vegas Winter Break Camp

Another winter break camp, this one for ages 5-11. It runs from Tuesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 5th at the East Las Vegas Community Center from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The cost is $60 perchild and advance registration is required. Call 702-229-1515 for to register or for more information.

Safekey Holidaze Camp

This camp also runs from Tuesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 5th. For ages 5-11, registration is $100 per child. The camp runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Attendees must bring their own lunch and snacks. Advance registration is required and no refunds are available.
