Garcia, 39, has been with LVMPD since 2001. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 9:40 a.m.
According to a Metro press release, officers approached a vehicle that was suspected in two prior robberies near Vegas Dr. and N Decatur Blvd. An adult male exited the vehicle with a baseball bat and "appeared agitate." After ignoring several prompts to drop the bat, an officer fired a bean-bag round from a non-lethal shotgun at the suspect. According to LVMPD that made the suspect more agitated and he began vandalizing the nearby storefront with the bat. As the suspect began to enter the store, Garcia fired his handgun. The suspect was arrested and taken to University Medical Center in stable condition. The suspect was not critically injured, Metro said Monday.
