Inmate Convicted In Deadly Las Vegas Bombing Escapes Prison

LAS VEGAS, NV—An inmate serving a life sentence for a deadly Las Vegas bombing escaped Tuesday from a Nevada prison after more than a decade behind bars, according to an official Facebook post by the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Prison guards at Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs first noticed that Porfirio Duarte-Herrera was missing as staff carried out their 7 a.m. scheduled count, the agency said. The facility is located about 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

According to the department, search teams began "escape procedures" at around 8 a.m. The inmate remained missing as of Wednesday afternoon.

Duarte-Herrera, 42, was sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted in a deadly 2007 explosion outside a Las Vegas Strip resort, according to CBS News. He had been incarcerated since 2010.

Duarte-Herrera is 5-foot-4, weighs 135 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair. He has no known tattoos, the department of corrections said.
