Las Vegas Valley Water District Warns About Possible Phone Scam

The Las Vegas Valley Water District issued a warning this week about suspicious phone calls from people claiming to be them.

LAS VEGAS, NV - If you get a phone call instructing you to call a toll-free number to avoid having your water services shut off, hang up the phone. It's not the Las Vegas Valley Water District on the other end. The district announced this week that a potential phone scam has been reported by a number of customers across the valley.

"In some instances, customers were provided a "reference code" and instructed to go to local grocery or drug stores, where they would be approved for an "express payment" on their water bills," a statement from the water district reads.

"The individuals making and receiving these calls are not LVVWD employees, and all valley residents should exercise caution if someone claims to be with a water company and asks you to call them for payment of a bill. The telephone number provided by the LVVWD for billing payments or inquiries will not be a toll-free number, and you will never be asked to go to a local drug or grocery store," the statement says.
