LVMPD Officers Identified In Two Separate Friday Shootings

The first two officer involved shootings involving Las Vegas Metropolitan both occurred on Friday, involving three officers.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported their first two officer involved shootings of 2018, both happening last Friday, Jan. 26. One male was killed and another brought to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries in the two separate incidents.

Just after 12:00 a.m. on Jan. 26, officers responded to a shooting on Giles St. where a 16-year old told police his step father shot and killed his mother, according to Capt. Chris Little. A 2005 Chrysler Sebring belonging to the family was missing from the home and officers began to look for the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle around 3:00 a.m. near Elcador St. A male exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand and pointed it at two officers, police say. The officers fired "an unknown amount" of rounds, Little said, and struck the suspect multiple times. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two LVMPD officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Officer Celina Cruz and Officer Anthony Raymond. Cruz, 30, has been employed with LVMPD since 2007. Raymond, 33, has been employed with LVMPD since 2006. Both are on paid administrative leave while the department investigates the incident.

In a separate incident later in the day around 11:30 p.m. a male suspect was taken to the hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries after brandishing a gun near the 1800 block of S. Las Vegas Blvd. Little said that the subject was "acting erratically, waving a firearm in the air," and refused to comply with officers demands before fleeing the scene. Little said he fled into traffic, prompting the officer to fire his gun.

"He refused to obey the officer's commands and continued acting erratically with a firearm in his hand, waving it about. The subject then ran into traffic still with the firearm in his hand, at which point in time the officer fired rounds at the subject," Little said.
