Recycle Your Christmas Tree In Las Vegas

Looking for a way to dispose of that old Christmas tree? Turn it into mulch at one of the 30+ drop sites across the valley.

LAS VEGAS, NV - Even those with the jolliest of Christmas spirits are taking their tree down at this point. The new year has arrived and as those holiday lights start to disappear and ornaments are put away to be unboxed next December, the Christmas tree, too, must go.

Luckily, Clark County has a Christmas tree disposal program with over 30 locations across the valley in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and in Boulder City. The Southern Nevada Christmas Tree Recycling Committee and Springs Preserve have partnered to provide places where people can dispose of their old trees free of charge.

Recycling that tree instead of just tossing it into a landfill is more beneficial than you might think. First, it's simply and easy. You can recycle a tree at a Lowe's store or at any of the locations listed here. From an environmental standpoint, the advantage is two-fold. Not only is landfill space being preserved, but the trees are chipped and turned into organic mulch for landscaping across the city.

The program has gained popularity in Las Vegas since 2001, when just under 5,000 trees were recycled. It took off in 2007 when roughly 20,000 trees were recycled, double the total from the year before. The number peaked in 2015 when over 20,000 trees were recycled. Last year that number was closer to 15,000.

The drop off sites are open across the Las Vegas valley until Jan. 15. For a full list of drop off sites, click the link below or call Tara Pike-Nordstom at UNLV Rebel Recycling at 702-895-3760 for more information.
