Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- According to Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance reports, the Centennial Hills Hospital has seven admissions, discharge, and transfer rights allegations. Five of the allegations are related to discharging patients. One recent lawsuit was about an unsafe release of an 87-year-old woman in January 2021, claiming the woman was sent home in a Lyft by hospital staff who never notified family or caretakers. (News3LV)
- Las Vegas hosted the 16th annual World-Sign Spinning Championship on Saturday. The unique competition welcomed spinners from 40 U.S. cities and 10 international cities who were judged on style, execution, and technical sign-spinning abilities. The winner has not been announced. (News3LV)
- The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) terminated a $120 million deal that would've built a 50-story, 2,000-room resort on the Strip. Claudio Fischer, a Chilean billionaire, decided not to commit to the purchase after the rise in interest rates over the past year. The LVCVA gave Fischer plenty of leeway with contract extensions with a long development runway – he didn't need to break ground until 2031. The deal ultimately fell through, and the 10 acres are on the market again. (Subscription: Las Vegas Review-Journal)
